Great numbers of people, who have been relieved by bleeding, are apt to be partial to the supposed means of their own recovery, and to become strenuous advocates of its use, even in cases by n o means similar to their own. These and a variety of other accidental causes often persuade to repetitions of blood-letting. The consequence now become more serious.
